Writing Effective Prayer

Be up the Creek in a good way!
 Saturday September 25th we will be gathering at the center at 8:30 AM to form a group to participate in California's Coastal Cleanup. The clean-up includes inland waterways so there are plenty of opportunities in our neighborhood. We will choose a site at the center on the 25th unless I hear of a particular favorite from you before then.

The cleanup ends at noon so we will probably be looking for a casual restaurant for an optional group lunch. You need to supply your own bucket and gloves. Hats, long sleeves, and insect repellent are recommended.

September 26th & October 3rd, 1 - 2 PM
New Members Orientation
Attention all members-to-be or current members who are interested in learning more about our Center!
There will also be a New Members Orientation Class on September 26th and October 3rd from 1:00 to 2:00 PM facilitated by some of your favorite ministers and practitioners. Here, you will learn about our teaching and some of the inner workings of our Center and be able to ask questions.
You do not have to attend these orientation sessions to become a member, and you can already be a member and attend the sessions. All are welcome.
We will have a New Members Introduction and Celebration on October 10th at the end of the second service.

As Religious Scientists, we know that our thoughts and beliefs create our world, individually and collectively. But knowing this, do you still find that you are holding on to beliefs that do not serve you? Maybe you keep repeating unwanted experiences and don’t even know what the underlying beliefs are. If so, come to this very special and important Moon Circle, where we will learn about and then practice “The Work” of Byron Katie.
Katie’s work is based on the idea that all suffering results from unquestioned thoughts, and that freedom comes from questioning all our stressful thoughts and realizing that they may not be as true as we believed. We’ll watch a short video, then move into a workshop to address our own stressful thoughts. This will give us the opportunity to turn them around and see that other viewpoints can be as true or truer - and not cause the stress we currently experience. It can be a mind opening and a mind blowing experience to realize that thoughts that may have caused you pain all your life are simply not true. No stressful thought is true. This is freedom.

He is known as the UNGURU. That's because, unlike most gurus and authors who blast you with what you should do and how you must think, he guides you to simply shift your perspective. Instead of goading you to follow him, he leads you to finding yourself.

Becoming Namaste

These days, nearly everyone knows what namaste means ... the Divine in me sees the Divine in you.
But how many really live, breathe, practice and become namaste?
How do you honor the Divine within someone you just don't like, or within someone who has been unkind to you? When we're being taught at every turn about Namaste and Unconditional Love and Compassion and Being Present and Forgiveness and Oneness, why is there so little love in the world today? Why are there more wars, more divorces, more broken families than ever before?
I learned the answers to these questions a few years ago when I was struggling with nearly all my relationships, both in my personal and in my professional life. I was eager to heal my relationships and move on, so I followed the path many of us follow when confronted with such challenges. I read books promising inner peace, lasting relationships, deeper spirituality and unmitigated success. I soaked myself in workshops and retreats. But nothing seemed to be changing.
Desperate, I picked up the phone and called my father in Mumbai, India. "What am I doing wrong?" I wanted to know...

"Not Your Average Yard Sale"
This event is your opportunity to Spring Clean your closets, your garage and move out of your storage sheds. Pack up your excess, your duplicates and that which no longer fits or serves you and convert it all to cash! For a donation of $20 (payable in the bookstore) you can reserve a booth space (2 parking spaces). Flyers and sign-up sheets can be found in the Social Hall. Please pass them out to your friends & neighbors as everyone is welcome to participate and booth space will be limited to ensure easier access & participant safety.
NOTE: Anyone selling services or new goods must have a City of Fremont License to practice/do business on display. For those of you that prefer, you may donate your items to benefit CSL and our Free Flyers starting now! Contact Deb Rowland to arrange for a pick-up or if you need organizing & sorting assistance.
We need Volunteers to assist with the set-up, selling and tear down for the CSL booth. It would be nice to have a Minister and/or Practitioner available for introductions and we need you to open & close the facility. Volunteer today.

We will be offering refreshments on the patio behind the Social Hall for Participants only. Please bring something to share. Bottled water will be provided.

Here we are in the middle of summer. Happy August to all! We have a very special treat on the second Sunday, August 8. Rev. Jacqueline Chohan will be giving a workshop at 1:30 that day. She will be teaching her process which includes T'ai Chi, meditation, and visualization. As a special treat, Rev. Jacqueline will be giving our lightly guided meditation at our regular time (10:50 to 11:20) that day. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience some of her technique before the workshop.
On the other Sundays of the month, our theme for August, our radiant summer month, is "Radiating as Infinite Divine." As I observe radiance in all forms, for instance, the sun sizzling on an amazing August afternoon, I understand I am one with the Infinite Divine, radiating light, love, power, abundance and creativity as me.
Please join us each Sunday. Come for some or all of our time of quiet reflection and focus. Please honor those already present by being considerate of the sacred space of the sanctuary during our time together. I look forward to being there with you.
